On November 3rd of this year, Bethany Cranford received the senior superlative for “Most Original.” Bethany says that she derives her originality mainly through her musical and theatrical interests. “ I like doing accents. I like singing. I like dressing up a little bit. I have my own sense of style. I just do what makes me happy, and I don’t care what other people think,” Cranford said. Bethany was incredibly delighted by the idea of winning “Most Original,” citing the meaning it has within herself. “It’s either, you know, they think you’re pretty cool, or they think you’re really weird. But either way, it tells me that I am different. I’m different from the norm I stand out, and that’s… that’s really meaningful to me because I try to not conform.”
Over the course of her high school career, Bethany has been involved in chorus, literary competition, color guard, winter guard, and one act. Every extracurricular that Bethany involves herself in is a reflection of her passion for the fine arts. “I like theater. I like singing. I like volunteering. I enjoy being kind. I often go out of my way… to cheer someone up… I also like cinematography.” Bethany said. After high school, Bethany plans to apply her passion and talent for the fine arts as a director of cinematography. She plans to achieve her dream job by pursuing a bachelors degree in film production and going to the Georgia Film Academy.
Bethany’s main advice for her underclassmen was to remember that judgement does not matter ultimately. “That’s something I’ve realized throughout my four years of high school. Just do what makes you happy. Don’t care about the judgments of others because what is judgment but their misunderstanding of your accomplishments, your goals, [and] your joy.” Bethany hopes that if there is one quality of her character to be remembered, it is that she stuck out from the status quo, and did not care what other people thought about her. That is the legacy Bethany plans to leave with Armuchee High School.
