The Armuchee High School girls soccer team’s 2026 season has started. The girls ended last season with a record of nine wins and seven losses with a six to one record in region. To prepare for this season, the girls have practiced and conditioned very hard. Star freshman Gaby Castro said, “Preparing for the season, we did conditioning and [worked] on our stamina. In our soccer group chat, Emily always texts who wants to go play Saturday and Sunday, and we always scrimmage. I have learned a lot and become a better player by doing those things.” By practicing and playing during the offseason, all the players prepare and get better for the season up ahead and are ready to face the challenges and obstacles head to head.
With high expectations for this season, the girls played Adairsville High School for their first game of the 2025-2026 soccer season. Although the girls played a tough game, losing eight to zero against Adairsville, they have since bounced back from the loss and have won three out of the last five games and defeated Darlington in an important rivalry game. After the loss against Adairsville, defender Isabel Martinez said, “We gained confidence and a stronger mentality, learned from our mistakes, and reflected on them to become better versions of ourselves.” Being resilient and not giving up, the team is bouncing back and coming back stronger than before and are willing to do anything for a win.
Even though fans come to watch the games on Friday nights, the work that gets put in behind the scenes is something that many argue is the most important part for any team. At practice, the girls coach, Kayla Timberlake, encourages the players to work with high intensity by practicing exactly how they want to play in the game. Their training sessions and practices are very busy and include fitness, technical drills, and tactical planning. To get ready for the more challenging and important games in the future, they also watch film and study their opponents’ play style. Harper Dixon, a starting player on the team, said, “We will watch film and study the upcoming opponents; we will also work on our formation now that we have new players coming from basketball.” By staying focused on both their physical skills and their strategy, the team is striving to reach new goals and win more games throughout the season. They are determined to achieve their goals and become the best possible team they can.
The girls have played twelve games so far this season. With a record of seven and five, they are on pace to win the region for the first time since 2021.With a massive ten to zero win against Chattooga, the girls have a four to zero record in region and have not lost a game in three weeks. Star player Brinley Dixon said, ”Winning region would mean a lot to not just me, but to our entire team. We haven’t won region since I have been in high school and it would be a surreal experience to win it.” With winning region being a huge goal on the team’s mind and the win streak that they are on, the girls are working harder than ever to help achieve this dream and turn it into a reality.
This season, the Armuchee High School girls soccer team has shown everyone what it means to play with heart. Led by coach Kayla Timberlake, the Lady Indians worked hard in every practice and game to get better as the season went on. The girls still have 3 more games until state playoffs and want to finish the season off with a bang. Star senior Ella Dunagan said, “we want to finish the season with an undefeated record in region and so we have momentum going into state. If we finish the season off like we can, it will give everyone confidence for the post season.” The girls are ready for the competition up ahead, while still focusing on region, state is still in the back of their mind, and they are ready to compete with anyone.
