This year the competition cheerleaders, winning the state title, made history by having an undefeated season and winning region for the first time ever.

On November 4, 2017 the competition cheerleading team became Region Champions. Matti Hawkins, sophomore, said, “When I first heard the announcer say that Coosa had gotten second place, I knew we had first. It was the most unbelievable feeling in the world.” The Armuchee High competition team has never won Region in the history of the program. “It is very hard to stay humble with a perfect season, but we have to remember that we wouldn’t be able to do any of these amazing things without keeping God in the center of it all,” said Logan Lively, freshman. Region took place at Columbus State University and started at 2:30 to around 6:00. “Being a freshman and having a perfect season so far is truly amazing. I am so proud of my team and I had hoped to keep that perfect season by winning state,” said Lively.

At the Columbus Civic Center on November 11th the competition cheerleaders finished off their undefeated season with a State Champion title. The competition  team has not won 1st place at state since 2014. “This was the best way to end high school and winning state my freshman and senior year has just made high school so much better,” said Kelsey Tucker, senior.

The competition cheerleading team left for state on Thursday November 9th to travel to Columbus. The bus was decorated with encouraging signs and lots of Armuchee blue. Since the team won Region the weekend before, they did not have to compete until Saturday. However, the team left on Thursday because they wanted to watch sectionals on Friday, and have one last practice before they performed their last routine.

On Saturday, the competition cheerleaders loaded the bus and headed to the Civic Center. The team did not compete until after intermission in the second session. At the State Finals there are multiple sections of warming up, such as stretching, tumbling, stunting, and a run through of the whole routine. When they finished their warm-ups, the team was escorted to the curtain right before they performed. Then they competed with a routine of what some may say was one of the best of their season. After all the teams from the AA, AAA, and AAAA divisions performed, they announced the top six from each divisions down to the floor. In the AA division Bacon County received fourth place, Coosa received third place, Screven County received second place and the AA Competition Cheerleading State Champions title was awarded to the Armuchee High School Competition team.
