Terrance Broxterman is one of Armuchee’s new Paraprofessionals this year, as well as one of Floyd County’s new teachers. He is very passionate about his job and loves the students and staff. He said, “It just literally feels like family down here.” He has a very positive attitude and is always in a good mood no matter what kind of day it’s been. His cheerful mood has a positive effect on his students and co-workers. Trudy Vansise, 7th grader, said, “He made my class more fun and I laughed a lot.”
Prior to starting his teaching career, he decided to try out the job by subbing at Floyd County Schools for a year. He said, “That’s when I kinda realized this is something I could do and enjoy.” Another thing that made Mr. Broxterman want to teach at Armuchee was his family. Mr. Broxterman’s wife, Mary Broxterman, is also a teacher at AHS. She has been teaching at Armuchee for over ten years. Mr. Broxterman said, “She’s amazing to work with. She loves her kids. I’ve heard for ten years now which kids really just make her light up. It’s great to be here with her.” His middle step-son is also graduating from Armuchee in the class of 2025. He said, “I’m looking forward to that.”
Along with being a great co-worker to his wife, he is also an enjoyable teacher. Emmy Wright, 6th grader, says, “He never gets annoyed or mad. Whenever the class gets too loud, he handles it pretty well.” Though he doesn’t get to spend every hour of the school day teaching, he makes the most of it in every class he gets to teach saying, “I love kids. This is a great group of people.” Mason Walker, 8th grader, says, “When he subbed our class last year, he was a pretty chill teacher.” Not only does he have skills in teaching, but he also has really good jokes. Gabriel Askew, 6th grader, says, “He’s really funny. He made the class laugh a lot.” Mr. Broxterman is a great teacher, role model, and someone to confide in. James, 7th grader, says, “He’s always there when you need him. He’s the one teacher I ever really felt comfortable talking to.”
Mr. Broxterman’s expectations for working at AHS are pretty high but reasonable. As this is his first year teaching, all he wants is the best for his students. According to him, he wants “to be rewarded with forward momentum from the students [he’s] working with.” He finds his job very important and enjoys being a part of the Tribe. He said, “This is a necessary job for any community to work and being part of that is important.” His favorite thing about working at the high school has been the thrill and the new experience of it. He said, “The variety, the spontaneity. Not knowing what each day is gonna bring.’’ He says multiple times that he wants to see the students he helps teach succeed. Having a teacher who not only loves his job but also appreciates the importance of it is necessary to have in a community like Armuchee. Based on what students had to say about him, he seems to already have an amazing influence on all of the students and staff and will hopefully bring many smiles to students’ faces this year.
