Ms. Heather Boaz was selected for the honorable Teacher of the Year award for 2025 – 2026 at Armuchee Middle School . The Teacher of the Year award is given to one teacher who shows their passion for teaching, shows courtesy to their students, teamwork, someone who is community driven, and as Ms. Boaz said, “They demonstrate to students how to love learning”. Mrs. Flagello said,” The Teacher of the Year award is given to one phenomenal teacher, who has strengthened their students to become the individuals they are, showing how caring for your students means to them, and demonstrating how to efficiently teach students.” Ms. Boaz is in her ongoing year teaching grades 7th and 8th mathematics at Armuchee Middle School. She has demonstrated what teaching means to her and how she builds relationships with the Armuchee community and students.
Ms. Boaz realizes the struggles students can have when learning new information. Ridgley Saratt, a student of Ms. Boaz’s eighth grade math class said,” She is very good at breaking down the problems and explaining definitions.” She established the intelligence that has helped students grow and develop in her class throughout the years that Ms. Boaz was their teacher. Heather Boaz is committed to fostering a safe classroom environment where all students can grow academically and reach their highest potential. Ms. Boaz said,” I have taught at Armuchee for eleven years.” Mrs. Boaz has her Masters from Western Governors, Bachelors from Shorter College, and Specialist degrees from Regent University. She is currently working on acquiring her Second Masters Degree in secondary mathematics.
Ms. Boaz was delighted to receive this award. Boaz said, “ I feel truly honored to receive this award. It feels utterly life-changing to see my students gain the confidence I knew they always had. I look forward to every moment when I see my kids have their ‘I get it’ moment. This award not only goes to me, but it goes to show how much effort my students put in each and every day.” This honorable award is more than just a title hardworking teachers receive. Ms. Heather Boaz is not only a teacher, but she is a true inspiration to her students. Kayla Rowland, a student in Ms. Boaz’s class said, “I like how she really helps us understand the topics before moving on, helping with our comprehension.”
Ms. Heather Boaz makes teaching lessons fun and engaging for her students, such as learning- based games. Ms. Boaz is known for her famous game called Silent Ball. She works diligently to create learning experiences for her students to remember. Ms. Boaz teaches lessons slowly, making sure all of the students understand the topic well before moving on. “She doesn’t teach like every other teacher; she makes learning a fun experience. She makes sure we are well informed on the topic before moving on to the next topic,” said 8th grader Davis Maner. Another student, Brayden Bush, a part of Ms. Boaz’s 7th grade math class said, “She changes how long the lessons are depending on how the students feel about the topic. She asks questions to make sure that we have mastered the topic. When we are learning linear equations, she understands that it may be difficult for us to grasp. She always takes it slow when we are learning difficult topics such as functions, proportional relationships, and probability.” Ms. Boaz always makes sure the kids’ hard work pays off. 8th grade math student, Lawsone Roberts, said,” My favorite part of her class is that she always rewards us for our hard work and good behavior!”
When Ms. Boaz is inside of the classroom teaching, she enjoys watching the students finally understand the concept. Ms. Boaz said,” One of my favorite lessons to teach is quadratics, exponentials, and really anything algebra.” She always wants to make sure the students comprehend the topics. She is also willing to help anyone who needs extra help. Ava, a former student of Ms. Boaz, said,” Ms. Boaz strives to create a relationship with each student that stretches beyond more than math. She takes the time and effort to get to know each student individually.”
One of Ms. Boaz greatest qualities is her ability to connect with her students on not only an academic level, but on a personal level. The relationships she has with her students helps tremendously. Heather Boaz said,” When the students see that I care for them, it helps them not only see the value in themselves but in their schoolwork, as well. I love to be silly with the kids, so my students know that there is a fun part to learning. My saying is always and always will be ‘If I’m entertaining, the math will be entertaining, too.’” Ms. Heather Boaz is an uplifting spirit, making sure that not only is she a good teacher, but also an impact on every student’s lives. Mrs. Hailey Burns said, “We are so thankful for Ms. Boaz, and we are so proud of her for being awarded the honorable “Teacher Of The Year” award. We hope to see Ms. Heather Boaz continue her legacy of inspiring students daily.”
