At the dawn of the 2025 school year, Armuchee High School (AHS) saw the recruitment of its newest faculty member, Mrs. Courtney Brock. Mrs. Brock has a history with Armuchee. She was the Media Specialist at Armuchee for five years before moving to Model where she worked for twelve years. “I was here years ago and could not wait to come back, and I am so happy to be back,” Said our newest Media Specialist. In total, Mrs. Brock has worked as a librarian for seventeen years. “I went to Shorter College for my bachelor’s, Jack State for my master’s, and Piedmont for my specialist.” Said the new Librarian. Mrs. Brock’s Bachelor’s was in education, her masters was in Media Specialist., and her Specialist degree was in curriculum and development. One of Mrs. Brock’s favorite parts of working in a library is by far the books. “I love books. I love the smell of them. I love the feel of them. I love everything about books,” said Mrs. Brock. The only aspect of the library that surpasses books in Mrs. Brock’s eye is the students. “I love talking with students about books they’ve read and sharing books that I’ve read with them,” said Mrs. Brock.

When asked about her biggest goal for this school year, the newest staff member said, “To improve the media center circulation. Get more books to more students to check out books.” When it comes to changes, Mrs. Brock has already made plenty. “I have decorated. I’ve put labels on middle school books, labels on young adult books, moved all the middle school books together by genre and all the young adult books together by genre,” Said Mrs. Brock. She also plans to have categories for the nonfiction books at some point. Some of Mrs. Brock’s hobbies include Reading, hiking, biking, and spending time with her niece and nephews. She has multiple favorite books including Redeeming Love, The Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, The Naturals, which is a series, and Legend, which is a series. Mrs. Brock’s favorite genre is mystery and dystopian.
This year, the library has six Work Based Learning students (WBL), and those students thoroughly appreciate her management.” She wants to get the job done even though the tasks are heavy workloads”, said Sebastian Castro, one of the library’s Work Based Learning students and a senior at AHS, when asked his favorite thing regarding Mrs. Brock. When asked what aspect of the library Mrs. Brock excels, Sebastian said, “Everything. She fixes new barcodes, checks in new books, and more.” Sebastian is not alone in this sentiment. David Easton, another of Mrs. Brock’s senior WBL students said, “My favorite thing about Ms. Brock is that she is that organization is the top priority for it. So, you never have to wonder where something is. It’s all right there, ready to go.”
When asked why she chose to work at Armuchee, Mrs. Brock said, “I love how everyone is like a family and everybody helps each other at Armuchee.” Many of her WBL students have already observed that Mrs. Brock is proving herself to be a useful addition to the school within her first month back on the job. Many students and faculty cannot wait to see what other change Mrs. Brock will bring about this and the following school years.
