On March 13th 2025 all of our regular World History and one of our Honors World History went on a field trip to Medieval Times to experience what it would be like to live in that time. The students got to eat the type of food they used to eat and they were not allowed to use forks or knives. The students also got to witness the horses and the men jousting on and off their horses. This was a new way of looking at the Medieval Times for the students and teachers, because this experience truly showed them how life was back in those times and how they were treated.
While being on this field trip, the students were allowed to interact with the performers during the show. This helped them with truly learning while the students were on this field trip. A sophomore, Aubri Dostart, said, “I learned how to joust, ride a horse, and how to win a sword fight.” These are all the things the students and teachers got to see and witness. The performers also talked to the students as the performance went along, saying “Watch as I do, maybe you will be able to do this one day!”. As all the students were observing the performers fighting they were all learning and seeing what they used to do if that even had one disagreement back then.
By the end of the student’s visit to the Medieval Times, the green team beat all the other students’ teams and the green teams performer got to crown one of our girls as the Princess of Beauty. The green team was the team for Armuchee’s students. Our sophomore Ellie Wolfer was crowned the Princess of Beauty, she received a crown, a sash, and a picture with the green team performer that won all the fights. Ellie said, “I was so surprised when he chose me for this award, but I was also so honored to have received this for Armuchee High School.” Everyone there was yelling it was so hard to tell who he was going to pick but as soon as Ellie was picked everyone got quiet and just watched as Ellie was crowned. All the students from Armuchee were excited for Ellie, so after the performer walked back down all the students started cheering for Ellie. A sophomore, Kennedy Falk, said, “I was so excited for Ellie but as the performer was walking up the stairs I almost thought he was going to walk down my aisle. I got a little excited!” All the girls at the Medieval Times were thinking it was going to be them but Ellie was the lucky girl that day!
The idea for this field trip was from two of our history teachers, Mrs. Ratledge and Coach Decker. They wanted for the students to see and learn about how their life was, and that is exactly what they did at Medieval Times. Coach Decker said, “This field trip was exactly what I would have wanted it to be and all the students got to have such a fun experience together.” Coach Decker also got to experience everything the students did, he had to eat all the food without utensils and got to watch the whole performance with the students. These teachers loved the performance and thought it was a really good representation of what life was like in the Medieval Times.
This performance was a very realistic day in a life and it was shown in a way for students to understand nowadays. It was still presented as old war times but the language was changed a little more for the students to be able to comprehend what was actually happening.
The field trip was a great way for the students and teachers to get a feel for the way life went on in those times and learn how to participate in a daily life in the Medieval Times.
