At Armuchee High School, style varies greatly from student to student around the school. You can spot many stylish outfits in the hallways everyday. Armuchee High School encourages students to be themselves and to not be afraid to do so. A big part about being yourself can also have to do with the way you present yourself and what you choose as your personal style. Whether it’s grunge, preppy, classy, vintage, or streetwear, students at Armuchee never fail to express themselves through their fashion.
Most of the outfits spotted in our hallways can be seen to take influence from social media considering there are many fashion influencers across apps such as Tiktok and Instagram. “My personal favorites would have to be Maddie White and Hannah Taylor,” said Olivia Casey. Others may take inspiration from actual celebrities, while another majority take innovation from the fictional roles these celebrities play in TV shows or movies, “I actually draw my inspiration from Elle Woods from “Legally Blonde,” said Mrs. Williams.
Even though not everyone chooses to dress up for school, the ones who do report that when they dress up, it actually helps them to feel better about themselves or perform better. “It makes me more confident and helps me feel better about myself,” said Rowen Campbell.
This isn’t the case for just students though, the majority of teachers love dressing up as well!
‘Fashion makes me perform better as a teacher because whether I take time to put effort into my appearance usually determines my attitude for the day,” Mrs. Williams said. In spite of this, some students still choose to dress casually. This may include leggings, sweatshirts, hoodies, or sweatpants. This could be because they choose comfort over appearance. Especially in today’s generation, teens may choose to have different priorities other than what they’re wearing.
Style at Armuchee can be diverse, but there can also be people with very similar styles due to certain trends being more popular than others. “I see a lot of bows and camo everyday,” said Olivia Casey. This is also the same case with brands. Brands such as Nike, Adidas, and New Balance can be spotted very commonly. Some trends can be spotted less simply because they are not favored as much. “I dislike when there’s loads of layers of mismatched clothes and people call it unique,” said Lacey Williams.
But what makes these outfits so special? Well there can always be little details in your attire to make it pop. “I like to add jewelry because I think it plays a big part by making an outfit look less bland,” said Rowen Campbell. Not only can clothes be styled well, but hair can also improve a look. Students usually tend to match their hair along with their outfits as well to make themselves more presentable. For example, someone in a cozy outfit might choose to do their hair in a slick bun, ponytail, braid, or any other tidy hairstyles to not look totally bummy. “Hairstyles must match outfits. It’s like a rule to me because if the hair doesn’t match, then everything will look out of place,” said Lacey Williams.
Overall, Fashion at Armuchee is much deeper than it looks. The more you look into it, the more details that make up each outfit you will notice. Behind every style choice, there is influence, methods, and motivation that bring everything together.
