Varsity baseball team has been widely successful over the last couple of years, and this past year they even made it to the state playoffs. Despite having seen multiple coaches throughout the years, the team has always been able to perform well no matter the circumstances. This is only achievable because of the talent, dedication, and coaching staff. The team this year is made of mainly seniors, so after they graduate,  it will be like starting with a whole new team next year. They will have to completely rebuild what they have now.

Blaine Ragland number 10 and Kohen Terry number 5 are both seniors at Armuchee High school, and both on the varsity baseball team. Terry and Ragland started playing at a young age and have stuck with baseball ever since. Blaine said, “My parents put me in baseball because I used to throw things around the house.” His parents saw something in him that made them think he would be successful, so they decided to put him in baseball. Kohen on the other hand, said, “I have been playing baseball ever since my dad was placing plastic balls on a tee.” Kohen’s dad wanted him to be a baseball player so he started at a young age. Kohen’s dad has a passion for the game and wanted to see his son succeed. Now both of the player’s parents get to watch them play baseball on the high school varsity team.

When it comes to superstition in baseball it varies from player to player, while Kohen says he has none, Blaine is superstitious. Baseball is a very different experience for everyone who plays. The level you play at, how you play, why you play, is all different for each player. One thing that all players do differently is their superstitions. Blaine’s superstitions are unique and something he believes holds power. He said, “If I play well I will wear the same thing I wore in the game before.” Blaine does this during the season while Kohen doesn’t have any of his own superstitions. Every game, Kohen just gets on the field and plays as well as he can. This is what works best for both players, this way they can lead their teams to more victories in their own ways. Even though they are both on the same team, they have a different mindset and keep a different routine to play the best they can, and help the varsity team the best they can.

Overall, Blaine and Kohen are both essential in aiding the team, and have both been with baseball for a long time. Whether they wanted to or not, they play now and are playing at a high level. This is from their hard work and dedication, they have been able to become successful. Of course they wouldn’t be here without their parents pushing them and encouraging them. They also wouldn’t be here if they didn’t help coach themselves. Baseball is a mentally challenging sport. So without confidence they would not be where they are. Having a routine and being superstitious works for some, but going out there and having a great time is what motivates player to keep moving mentally.
