Senior superlatives are a great honor, and one of the most honorable here at AHS are the Mr. and Mrs. AHS. This year’s Mr. AHS superlative has gone to William Pethel, who was both surprised and honored to recieve this award. He said, “Not only was I suprised to receive this awards, but I was very honored to have been voted for Mr. AHS.” William always has always felt connected to the people of Armuchee and worked hard to represent the Armuchee spirit and what the tribe is all about. He said, “I’ve gone to Armuchee my whole life and feel really connected with all the people here, and I always do my best to show up for the tribe.”
After William graduates, he plans to attend Samford University. The reason that he plans to attend Samford is because of their exceptional Education field. Which is the kind of work force he plans to go into after college, wanting to one day be a Principal just like his dad.
When we asked Mr. Pethel, William’s father, what he thought about him recieving the award, he expressed how proud he was of his son. He said, “It was a proud dad moment for me, and I was very very happy for him to have won the superlative he did.” Mr. Pethel talked too about how one of the cool parts of being the principal of the school your son goes to, is that you often know stuff before them. Meaning that he knew about William winning the Mr. AHS award the night before, but didn’t say anything. Mr. Pethel explained to us why he believes that Willam won this award. He said, “I hope and believe that William truly exemplifies We>Me and treats everyone with respect, which may have played into him winning the superlative he did.”
Sadly, this will be Williams last year of attending Armuchee as he is a senior and will be graduating in May. Mr. Pethel told us how he feels about his son leaving the school soon. He said, “While I am very excited for the day he graduates, I’m also dreading it some. It will be an emotional moment for me, because handing a diploma to a kid you’ve watched grow up is one thing, but handing one to your own son is another.” Congratulations William!
