This year the senior superlative for Most Athletic was awarded to Sophie Thacker. Sophie participates in many different sports such as volleyball, basketball, and track. Sophie also ran on the cross country team her freshman and sophomore year. Sophie is also a two time state champion with cross country. When the winners were announced, Sophie was shocked to find out that she had won most athletic. She said, “I really didn’t expect to get this superlative, I was so surprised!” She believes that there are many other very athletic girls at Armuchee who also could have received this superlative. She said, “We have a really talented girl population at Armuchee and any of them could have been given this superlative.”
Sophie Thacker has always enjoyed doing sports, as she has participated in multiple different sports throughout high school. She said, “I like doing sports because not only can you be successful by yourself but you’re also surrounded by a team and it’s really helped me become the person that I am today. They’re important to me because I’ve been doing them for so long and it allows me to have a part in the school.” Doing sports means a lot to Sophie, which is a good determoing factor for why she has given most athletic.
Sophie shared that winning the most athletic superlative made her feel more recognized. She said, “I didn’t necessarily feel more confident or like I had to work harder, but I felt like my efforts in my sports throughout the past 4 years has been seen!” Sophie said that if she hadn’t won this, Mallory Hulsey should’ve won it. “I thought that Mallory would get it because she is really good at volleyball!” Sophie believes that the most athletic award suits her best. She said, “ I feel like my superlative accurately represents me and my personality.”
Being involved in sports here at Armuchee has helped Sophie learn a lot throughout the years, and benefited her in various ways. She said, “It’s blessed me with friends, taught me life lessons, and helped me be in good shape.” She said that being in sports also helps her with motivation and will help her in the future when it comes to discipline. Since Sophie is a part of a lot of sports, she has to stay motivated enough to be able to do everything. Sophie said, “It’s not just about me but it’s also I have this role that I have to complete because there are people that rely on me.” Sophie has created a lot of fun memories during her time with sports at AHS, but her most favorite memory was when she helped win state in the four by four her freshman year. She said, “I remember I was last leg and Shelby was running along the sideline and saying, “there’s somebody behind you,” and I was scared because I was thinking that I’m about to lose this for us.” Sophie ended up winning because there was no one behind her. This brought her and the team a lot of joy and they were all really happy. Not only has doing sports taught Sophie a lot and brought her friendships, she has also created great memories with those people.
Sophie has plans for what she is going to be doing after she graduates. She said, “I want to attend Georgia Southern’s Honor College, majoring in industrial engineering.” Sophie has an internship at the local hospital, where she has completed tasks related to nursing, such as editing slideshows for nursing classes, reviewing various documents, and sitting in on meetings. She was very interested and decided to learn more during her internship. She said, “It’s just something I am interested in.” Congratulations to Sophie for winning her superlative!
