One of the most memorable parts of senior year is painting your parking spot. Seniors are allowed to come to school after hours and paint their respective spot. By painting their spots, seniors can show off their personalities and creativity.
Carlie Wolfer, senior, used her parking spot as a way to showcase her interests. Her spot is similar to the Barbie logo. She said, “It represents my love for Barbie and how it has been a big part of my childhood.” Wolfer’s senior spot sheds a positive light on her personality. She said, “The bright colors and bold design show that I’m embracing the moment and ready for what’s next.” Wolfer is excited to see what the future holds as a senior.
Julian Alvarez, senior, similarly, created his spot design by including many of his passions. He said, “My design includes varying parts of my life and things that are important to me.” His parking spot features a football, the AHS rocking “A”, and a goldfish, among many other motifs. Alvarez also reflects on his childhood with his design. He said, “It makes me reminisce about my younger years and stuff I grew up loving.” Not only does his spot show what he enjoys, it also references how Alvarez is as a student. He said, “It shows my diversity as a student and a person.” Alvarez is able to show his key interests in his parking spot while, simultaneously, conveying the message of involvement as a senior at Armuchee High School.
The event of painting a senior parking spot allows for a time that students can spend with their family and friends while they all work on the project together. Wolfer was helped by her family. She said, “My mom, stepdad, and sister bought paint and supplies for me and worked very hard to help out with the long process.” Wolfer enjoys the memory of sitting in the August heat with her family as they all worked alongside her.
Alvarez reflects on his helping hands throughout the designing process of his senior parking spot. He said, “I think my parking spot is special because my mom and brother painted it for me and my brother designed the whole spot himself.” Alvarez is grateful for his brother’s artistic ability because he was able to combine multiple aspects of Alvarez’s life into one piece of art. The process of painting the spot took a total of 4 hours. Alvarez believes that, because he worked on this project with his mom and brother, he was able to make long lasting memories with both of them.
The creativity shown throughout senior parking spots is appreciated, not only by students, but also by the faculty at Armuchee High School. Mrs. Dougherty, art and yearbook teacher and competition cheerleading assistant coach, said, “It’s a different, more individual way to express their personality and things they’re interested in even if it isn’t school related.” The most creative design this year was made by Amelia Kneifl-Hernandez, senior, and Jaxson Roberts, senior. They created a design that spread to both spots because they are next to each other. It is based on the Tim Burton film, “Nightmare Before Christmas”. The design makes use of many colors and characters from the film.
Painting your parking spot is an excellent privilege that allows senior students to express creativity and personality. Many students have taken this opportunity to show what they enjoy. From Barbie to Tim Burton, there are no limits for our seniors.
