Homecoming Court is when two to five girls are elected by their peers to represent their class. By representing their class, they get to dress up and walk across their school’s football field to be recognized at their homecoming football game. The Senior Class of 2025 girls Homecoming Court was represented by Taylor Burns, Caroline Fletcher, Shari Torres, Kileigh Barcomb, and Cailyn Poole. These girls were all elected by their class peers to represent their grade for the 2025 school year.
Being picked to represent your class is such an honoring feeling. Kileigh Barcomb said, “It is such a great feeling to know that my classmates chose me to represent them and I could not be more grateful!” Taylor Burns has been selected to be on Homecoming Court for the past four years and was so excited to walk the field one last time as an Armuchee Indian. Taylor said, “I am so excited about representing my class! It has been so fun getting to be on the Homecoming Court throughout highschool.” Shari Torres was voted to be on Homecoming Court for the very first time this year. She said, “I am very much looking forward to representing the class of 2025. I feel like I’ve grown close with a lot of my classmates and I’m very grateful to have been considered for Homecoming Court. “
Having to walk across a field in front of the entire school can be very nerve racking for some people, but very exciting for others. Cailyn Poole was feeling very excited leading up to this event. She said, “I’ve been feeling super excited! All of my friends are on court so I am so excited to be able to do this with them!” On the other hand, Caroline Fletcher was very nervous prior to this experience. She said, “I am anxiety ridden. I think about it late at night, scared I’m gonna fall on my dress.” Kileigh has been on Homecoming Court every year since she was a sophomore. Kileigh said, “I am super excited. I love all things Homecoming. I’m super excited because the past two years I have gotten to do it with one of my best friends, Taylor Burns, and this year, three of my other best friends are on court with us!”Everyone on the field was escorted by selected members of their family. Shari Torres had her dad escort her across the field. She is very grateful for him to be able to participate in this opportunity alongside her. She said, “He’s been my rock throughout a lot of transitions in my life and he’s really all I’ve got.”
One of the most exciting parts of being on Homecoming Court is being able to share it with your best friends. Taylor Burns said, “This year the most exciting thing about being on Homecoming Court is being with four other really sweet girls who are some of my best friends!” Kileigh Barcomb was excited to have this opportunity to make fun memories with her closest friends. She said, “I am most excited about sharing the experience with my friends. The girls on senior court are all friends, which is super fun because we get to share this together. Homecoming Court is all about the memories and being on it with some of my best friends will be so fun!” Caroline Fletcher was really looking forward to being able to get all dressed up. She said, “Being on the field in front of everyone and dressing up is what I am most excited for. It’s like every girl’s dream to be on the Homecoming Court so it’s just like something out of a movie.”
This experience was a way for these selected girls to represent themselves, as well as their entire grade. Cailyn said, “It is a creative way to lead by example and show others that you can do things for fun just because you want to spend time with friends!” Shari felt it was an exciting way to show off who she is. She said, “This experience is definitely validating for me. I feel like my personality is being recognized, not just by my mentors but by my peers and especially as someone who struggles with finding their social grounds, it feels like “Hey! I didn’t do too bad after all.”” Homecoming Court allowed these girls to step out of their comfort zones, and express who they are.
