Julian Alvarez and Abbie Carson, both seniors at Armuchee High School, have positions on the 2024-25 Senior Leadership Team. Julian is the class president and Abbie is a class representative. As senior class president Julian said, “ I come up with ideas for school events and be a messenger for the student body.” This means Julian thinks of ways he can influence what happens at school events and relays to the staff what the student body is saying. Abbie on the other hand said, “I attend monthly meetings and make decisions on behalf of the senior class.” This means as a class representative she will make decisions for her class as a whole and attend meetings where she might discuss how she can change their school to make it more enjoyable. Everyday Julian and Abbie are both striving to do the best they can on the leadership team. Whether it’s speaking for the student body, attending meetings to discuss how to impact their school or figuring out ways to get more people involved in school events outside of school hours.
Abbie and Julian have both impacted their school in many ways. Both of their impacts have been positive towards the school. Even though their accomplishments have been very different from each other. Julian said, “I had suggested that we be able to wear hats no matter the day.. My idea was passed and now we can wear them whenever we want to.” This has been a major change because hats used to be banned at AHS. Volunteerism is a large part of the role of a student leader. Abbie said, “I enjoy being able to volunteer at school functions through being a student leader.” She has been at events but did not get any incentive for being there. Recently, the team went to the Bagwell Food Pantry to volunteer with the community. Abbie said, “I really enjoyed the thought that I was bringing a smile to people’s faces. Not a lot of teenagers are active in terms of community service. It was great seeing some of the student leaders at Armuchee coming together for a good cause.”
Julian and Abbie both enjoy their position on the team. They love having a say in things that happen around the school. Abbie said “We help to decide on homecoming dress up days.” Which she really enjoys because she gets a say in something important around the school instead of letting it be up to the staff members and not the student body. Julian said, “I have helped organize various fundraisers to benefit our school.” This is one reason why they like what they do because they can benefit their school and have a say in things that go on. Abbie and Julian both have said that they are happy with their decision of running to be on the team. The student leadership team helps our school out in so many ways like helping the student body be heard and raising money for students’ needs.
