Everyone has different views on sports, and the students here AHS are no exception to this. Some people might think certain sports are fun while others don’t enjoy them at all. Studies have shown that most negative opinions on certain sports might be linked to a bad past while playing the sport or attending an event for it. On the other hand people can gain a positive outlook on a sport through a good experience. This all leads to people finding a favorite sport. The freshman at AHS all have different favorites. Some students think basketball is the best and others believe it is baseball. Knowing others’ favorite sports is beneficial because it lets you know what they enjoy and why. Having a favorite sport also provides many benefits too including higher self esteem and lower levels of loneliness.
Freshman Caleb Carson said his favorite sport is baseball. He said, “It is extremely fun to watch and I enjoy playing it, too.” Caleb learned about baseball through his dad, who played baseball in high school. Caleb has played baseball since he was 6 after his dad told him about it and he has played for several different teams since then. Caleb said, “Currently, I play 2nd base for the Armuchee High School jv team.” Caleb also enjoys watching the University of Georgia baseball team as well as the Atlanta Braves because. He said, “I love watching them so much that I watch them almost every time they play because they inspire me to get to that level of talent.”
Differing from Caleb, Slater Arrington, a freshman at AHS, claims that his favorite sport is golf. Slater said, “I enjoy golf because it is peaceful and very fun and enjoyable.” Slater also mentioned he is very grateful his grandpa informed him of the sport because he has been playing it since then. Slater is currently playing on the AHS high school golf team. He said, “Scottie Scheffler is my favorite golfer because he has overcome several challenges on his road to success.” Slater explained since Scheffler is his role model, he strives to be like him. Slater mentioned he likes Scottie because he is currently the best golfer in the world. This makes Slater want to improve his own game to be more like Scottie’s.
Freshman Carter Hood, at AHS plays on the JV football team and his favorite sport is football. Carter has grown up playing football. He plays center on offense and linebacker defense. He said, “Football is my favorite sport because I enjoy hitting people, and it’s good physical activity.” He learned about football from his grandpa because they used to watch the Philadelphia Eagles together when he was 5. Carter’s grandpa also played football growing up and told Carter multiple stories about the sport. This eventually led to Carter deciding to pursue the sport himself. Carter said, “I am a Georgia Bulldog and a Philadelphia Eagles fan, and I watch them every chance I get.” He explained he likes these two teams because they are both very good and he has friends that like them too.
