AHS senior homecoming court boy representatives will walk the field on October 5th 2024. The representatives are Julian Alverez, Elan McClain, William Pethel, Blaine Ragland, and Kohen Terry. They will be representing their class of 2025. Of course, all the representatives were voted for by their peers. Their love and passion for the Armuchee community was a big part that played into why they were chosen. Elan McClain said, “I’ve been here a long time and have made close connections with the community. I also try to embody the qualities that make Armuchee high school great.” Elan tries to show Armuchee’s best qualities in himself and be the best person he can be for his peers and teachers. Blaine Ragland also said, “I try to represent everybody and I also try to be friendly. I don’t want anybody to be left out or feel like they are over anybody else.” The representatives all show qualities of friendliness and kindness, revealing why their peers and classmates voted for them. For instance, their kind heart and overall spirit of Armuchee. Issac Tucker, a senior, said, “I’m actually close friends with Elan McClain and all of them. I have a lot of classes with them and they all are very good people. They are on teams with me and I am on the decathlon team with Elan. I just know them really well and they all are great.”
Being involved at Armuchee is also another big way peers and classmates notice all the things the boys do in our community. Julian Alveraz said, “Varsity soccer, varsity track and cross county, varsity football, FBLA, I am also the president of class 2025, NHS, pickleball champion, and soon to be FCA member.” Julian’s peers noticed how many things he does here at Armuchee and how hard he strives to be involved. From sports to being the president of class of 2025, he is a very active member. Kohen Terry, said, “I do baseball and NHS. I don’t do much, but in the things I do, I strive to be the best.” Even though Kohen isn’t in as much as Julian is, he still is an active student and works his hardest at what he does. He is always finding ways to serve the Armuchee community, helping friends, and our big family. Parker Campbell said, “We have a wide variety of types of people, different personalities, and they are involved in different things. We got a couple of athletes, some do community service, I think one is on the decathlon team too. All good people that represent Armuchee well.” Parker can see how all the representatives are active and show up for us at Armuchee. From the athletics to the clubs, each one is fully committed to the heart of our community.
Even though the senior class of 2025 voted for the five representatives only one can win and be crowned homecoming king, this means campaigning and persuading people to vote for which representative they want to win. Each representative has different ways of campaigning and persuading voters to vote for them. William Pethel said, “I plan to hand out a bunch of candy at the parade on Wednesday. Hopefully voters are persuaded.” William knows that the power of candy goes a long way at persuading everyone. Another way representatives are persuading voters is to have a variety of things that interests everyone. Julian Alverez said, “I have water bottles, banners, life size cutouts, candy, chocolate pretzels, bracelets, and my amazing and bubbly personality to give out at the parade.” Julian made sure to cover all the bases with persuading voters. From food to accessories, he also made sure to add that he would persuade them with his personality showing that goes a very long way at how that persuades people in voting. Being himself and getting people to vote for him for who he is. It is also essential for the representatives to persuade all the voters to make sure they have enough votes to win. Elan McClain said, “I plan to hand out candy at the parade and during school. I Definitely can’t forget about the people that won’t show up for the parade.” The parade is a big part of the campaigning but Elan made sure he could campaign to everyone and not just the people at the parade. Making sure he had a chance to persuade all his classmates and peers.
The homecoming game is when all the campaign and persuading pays off for whoever wins. At the game during halftime, the representatives will walk across the field while someone reads off what they plan to do for the rest of their high school career and future. Blaine Ragland said, “I will probably be a little bit nervous. I have to be out there in a football uniform and not a tux so they may look at me differently or not take me as seriously as the others.” Like Blaine, many people are nervous to walk in front of the big crowd. Worried how the fans in the stands will perceive them. But other representatives are not nervous at all and are ready to walk in front of everyone. Elan McClain said, “ No, I’m not really nervous, though it’s kinda weird. I’ve always been self conscious and at the end of junior year I had gained a lot of self confidence knowing that it doesn’t matter what people think, then I started having more fun and being myself.” Unlike Blaine, Elan shows how no matter what happens he will have fun and be himself in front of the crowd. That being nervous was silly, other people’s opinions don’t matter, and having fun was better than worrying for Elan.
On October 5th 2024, we will see who wins. Who campaigned more than everyone else and showed how involved he was in the tribe at Armuchee high school.
