This year at Armuchee High School, Abbie Carson has taken the opportunity to take part in internships to become more experienced with environments and better understand the real world. The chance to take part in Internships has helped many students find better careers by mimicking work environments and preparing them for the future. Abbie hopes to become a Pharmacy Technician, and exposure is why many students have chosen to participate in these programs. Abbie Carson said, “My internship helps me to learn about the different career options in the pharmaceutical field. I can talk to the people who work in the pharmacy and listen to their personal experiences in this field.” Many students should strive to gain experience in a job field if they would like to secure a position.
The time spent on an Internship is definitely worth it in the long run, and it can’t be emphasized more how much it’ll help someone gain job experience in a career path. The many available jobs that are presented to students give them ideas of what they might want to pursue and prepare them for the bright future ahead of them. Many students might also find these internships to bring out other sides of them so they can face their fears, Abbie Carson said, “Sometimes, I tend to be an introvert. However, the people in the pharmacy have helped me to come out of my shell by asking me questions about myself and engaging in conversation.” Believing in your skills and abilities is what makes one more successful and accustomed to their job environment, Abbie said, “I am a very organized thinker, and I appreciate how (the) pharmacy is based on organization with medicines.” Someone who didn’t think in an organized manner would have a difficult time trying to work at this position. Abbie also said, “I am able to talk to the people who work in the pharmacy and listen to their personal experiences in the field.” Getting to know the experiences people face while working a field sparks more interest in a career path.
Abbie always enjoys getting out of school to educate herself on something she will be doing in the future. The opportunity to leave school during the middle of the day is what most students might want, but also getting the opportunity to learn more about your future career is important to many students and even parents of those students. Even though learning about a job is what’s vital to getting one, Abbie said, “A con would be that you may not be learning something new every day.” While the repetitive information being taught might be annoying, it is best to build habits and persistence while working at a select job. Teaching a student different things every day might make them forget what was taught in the past, and every piece of information taught to them is vital to keep their position in a job. Watching and shadowing employees of a job is what many students might do at an internship, Abbie said, “I shadow pharmacists and pharmacy technicians. I enjoy going with technicians to restock medicines in the ICU, the ER, and Labor and Delivery.” Watching before engaging at a job is best for visual learners and gives them more ideas on how things operate at their job. Abbie can’t wait to take her knowledge learned from internships and use it in the pharmaceutical field.
