Mrs. Elyssa Williams is a new teacher at AHS this year, she teaches English Language Arts in the 6th grade building. Mrs. Williams has been an ELA teacher for twenty years and believes that ELA is one of the most important subjects to know. She said, “To be productive as an adult you have to be able to be literate at a comfortable level in reading and writing.” Mrs. Williams told us that one thing she looks forward to this year is getting to know the new students and teaching them about her love for language arts with the hope that they can love ELA as much as she does. She is very passionate about her job and says she can’t wait to continue her new journey here at AHS.
Mrs. Williams teaches grades 6th and 8th, and she says that her love for reading made her decide that she was called to be an English teacher. Mrs. Williams said,“I think it’s important for the students to know the relationship between life and ELA”. One of Mrs. Williams’s students, 6th grader Emmy Wright said, “She motivates me to get my work done and she chooses great books,” Mrs. Williams’ all time favorite book to read with the class yearly is Lightning thief from Percy Jackson, “It’s a fun read and the kids enjoy it.”. Mrs. Williams says that her passion for helping others and especially children was enough for her to know that ELA teaching was what she wanted to do.
Mrs. Williams says that she doesn’t ever get bored of teaching ELA, she says, “every year is something new.” In her free time Mrs. Williams says she loves to read, but she also loves to do a variety of other things like, hike, garden and be outdoors. Mrs. Williams expectations for her first year at the Armuchee High School are high, saying she can’t wait to be a part of the Highschool and get to know everyone here. All Mrs. Williams wants is the best for her students and to give them the school experience they need to be successful in their lifes.
Sixth grade Gabriel Askew said , “When I’m struggling in my work and need help Mrs. Williams helps me to figure it out without me having to get stressed.” A few students have been interviewed about Mrs. Williams’ teaching environment and they’re responses have been far from negative. Seventh grade, Trudy Vansise says “Mrs. Williams is my favorite teacher and she’s helped teach me a lot about ELA.” Mrs. Williams says that being a part of a career that Is necessary for the next generation to succeed is extremely rewarding, and being an ELA teacher is also rewarding due to the amount of importance the literature you teach is in the adult stages of your life. “Mrs Williams says, “I plan to carry out the healthy enviorment of Armuchee in my classroom and be the best teacher I can be.” She also says, “I want to be a good role model to my students so that they can be prepared for their futures out in the real world.” Mrs. Williams is so excited for her new adventure at the Armuchee High School and she can’t wait to get to know all of her new students.
