Macy Green, a junior at the Armuchee High School, has obtained an internship for the WBL (Work Based Learning) program. WBL is an internship that is full of instructional strategies that help engage employers and schools into providing learning experiences for the students. Macy selected this internship at Armuchee High School as a communication social specialist for social helping Mrs. Arp with tasks such as worksite learning, apprenticeships, and more. Macy selected this internship due to her interest in internet platforms and social media.
¨I would say that I am a hardworking, confident, and passionate person¨ said Macy. This is because of the big commitment she has made to her education every day. Confidence plays a big role in this internship. It allows you to feel good when public speaking and perform better. Being very passionate can also help you a lot. When you go into WBL with passion, it helps you want to improve and do better in your projects. This is due to the sole fact that when you enjoy participating in something, you get excited to work into it more and more every day.
Macy´s faith has definitely played a huge role in her life and her internship in WBL. ¨It gives me hope for every day. It helps me be more patient with dealing with people, and it also helps me to persevere when times get tough,¨ She said. No matter how rough life gets for her, Macy will always keep her eyes focused on Jesus and his path for her going forward into her internship. Keeping faith in what is planned in her journey in WBL adds a positive outlook on her future.
Aside from her belief in Jesus, Macy also really looks up to and is very motivated by her father. ¨I look up to my Dad. He is the most hardworking person I know and he has overcome so much adversity and cancer, and he always puts in his all even if all he has is 50%.¨ Her dad also really helps motivate Macy to show up and work hard. This tremendously helps with her journey in WBL as she is working with others. So with her father’s motivation, Macy is inspired to participate and not hold back when it comes to working so she doesn’t slow herself or others down.
An amazing skill that WBL has taught and helped Macy with is how to do and complete her work, even on the days when she feels like doing otherwise or procrastinating. “Work-based learning has positively impacted my ability to get stuff done, even when I do not want to. If I do not do my work, I am putting others behind on their work as well,” said Macy. With access to this useful factor, Macy has been given the ability to get a week ahead of her work all the time. Her work includes creating infographics for the school’s social media page.
WBL can also help individuals build positive relationships with school staff and students by allowing them to talk amongst each other and learn interesting things about one another. “It’s helped me to communicate well with others. I have learned how to get to know people in a short amount of time so that I can work well with them” Macy says. This factor makes WBL an amazing component for when students wish to learn more social skills.
