Mr. David Boaz has joined the AHS staff this year as a middle school math teacher and as the new head wrestling coach. Before moving to teaching at Armuchee, he taught eighth grade math at Coosa Middle School. Coach Boaz has said, “I had the opportunity to become the head wrestling coach for the high school. Me and my wife lived up here already and getting up here felt like the right choice for us, and being a part of the community felt like a great opportunity for us.” Coach Boaz hopes that joining the Armuchee staff and community will have a positive outcome on him and his wife. Coach Boaz said, “I love reading, I love movies, and I like to play pickleball” as some of his hobbies.
As a new teacher at Armuchee, Coach Boaz has said that his first impression of Armuchee is, “Tight-knit would be the best way to describe it. Everybody knows everybody and there is a strong sense of community up here.” Coming from Coosa, Coach Boaz has spotted that as the big difference between Coosa and Armuchee. He said, “The big difference is the sense of community we have here (Armuchee) there’s just way more involvement. Support from the community around here, Coosa was great but the support is way more intense.” Adding to that, he said, “I think it’s everything. More people around here that come to everything, there’s more people at crowds, there’s more people that want to just be here and be involved in every way.” At Armuchee, people are more involved with the school because of the smaller community. Coosa, as compared to Armuchee, is a larger school with more students, with Armuchee having less students, Coach Boaz has noticed that the community is stronger because of this.
Coach Boaz, being the new head coach of the wrestling team, has said, “The wrestling room that we have here and things like that is fantastic.” Coach Boaz has a plan to help the wrestling team here at Armuchee prosper. Coach Boaz said, “First things first is gonna be a strict regime that I feel like has been missing from a lot of programs around here. With that also, it’s going to be making sure the kids know the expectations.” Coach Boaz has seen some of the wrestling teams and wants to make sure that Armuchee’s wrestling program is better than the other schools in the area. He will have strict rules to make sure the team performs to the best of its ability.
Becoming a new teacher is only confusing in one way. Boaz said, “I need a map of the school immediately. It is impossible to find your way around here (main school building), every hallway looks the same.” As a new teacher at Armuchee, Coach Boaz thinks that a map of the school would truly benefit the new teachers and staff in the building so it can be easy to navigate to the places they need to be. Coach Boaz said, “Yes, I would definitely” recommend teaching at Armuchee as a new teacher. Coach Boaz has had a warm welcome from the students, community, and staff, and recommends becoming a part of the tribe for this very reason.
