This year at AHS, Caroline Fletcher, a senior, is now in two different work based learning classes. Work based learning is anywhere from one to three class periods where this student gets to work on their people skills and learn how a job in the real world works. Caroline is very busy during her second and fourth periods because that is when her work based learning time is. Caroline has one of her classes with Mrs. Stamey and Mrs. Arp. Caroline said, “ With Mrs.Arp I am basically the bookkeeper for the school store and anything else Mrs. Arp may need me to do. With Mrs. Stamey I check books in and out, shelve books with the occasional Chromebook and paper delivery.” With Mrs. Arp Caroline collects money from the coffee shop, FBLA, school store, and anything else Mrs. Arp needs. Caroline counts the money and receipt it and she files it all in the system for a record of why the school has the money.
Caroline does not really get any breaks during her work time, but she still has fun and has many favorite things to do in the library and Mrs. Arp’s room. Caroline said, “I love all the tasking elements. Since I am at school, I am not getting a full working experience like I do at my job but I do enough to learn some really good life lessons in the comfort of my school.” Caroline has met many of the students and helps her work on her people skills! Both of her class times are in the morning and afternoon so she had to like both either way. Caroline gets to learn many lessons for her life while participating in these classes.
Caroline’s favorite thing about Armuchee High School is the environment. Fletcher said, “ It’s really predictable and most of the time everyone is happy and light-spirited. You can count on and you can count on the staff to all be extremely present and helpful.” Our staff is very kind and always here if you ever need anything. The student body can also be very school spirited leaving you being proud about your school.
As soon as Caroline gets up she needs music to wake her all the way up. Caroline said, “Well one of the first things I do in the morning is I turn on music. Normally it’s some country, folk or Fleet-wood Mac. Just music that is really calming to me. I started my school day with Mrs. Stamey so I got to fill her in on all the stuff that happened the day before.” Caroline has many different types of music she likes to listen to, but in the morning she has certain types she likes to listen to.
One of Caroline’s work based learning teachers, Mrs. Arp, had similar goals to Caroline. Mrs. Arp is also a coach for girls basketball. Mrs. Arp said, “This school year as a coach I hope to grow our programs to complete our best each day by putting in the work leaving each day better than we started. I hope we can make runs in the state playoffs and finish at the top of region competition, all white having a daily love for our sport and each teammate!” Caroline can help Mrs. Arp with her goal because Caroline is having her improve and make everyday better than the last. Caroline also has her goals for the year which are similar to Mrs. Arp in some ways. Caroline said, “To make the most of it! At the beginning of the year I wrote in my planner that this is my only year to be a senior and I need to live life to the fullest because I will never have a chance to do it again. It is bittersweet to think that this is my last year but I am so excited for my next chapter in life!” Both of them want to improve and make the best out of this year. They want to make this year they best it can possibly be.
