The upcoming wrestling season is coming right around the bend. Many students are passionate about the sport and are ready for the challenges that the upcoming season will hold.. Some of the wrestlers would like to achieve the accomplishment of making it to state, and even making it on the podium. Joshua Jones, sophomore, said, “My goal for this season is to go to state and at least stand on the podium.” Josh is thrilled for this upcoming season. Josh has been exercising in preparation of the season in order to get stronger and achieve this goal. There are many different reasons wrestlers decide to take up the spo

Perry Dupree, Sophomore, said, “My brother started wrestling his sophomore year, and I’ve always been interested in it.” This particular wrestler got involved in wrestling Because his brother had great success in his career. Another thing that wrestlers are looking forward to is seeing their favorites on the coaching staff. Jasper Glover, freshman, “Coach Spota is my favorite coach.” Glover said. Coach Spota, who has been a wrestling coach for most of his life, has had a prominent role in Armuchee wrestling for about 13 years now. In those 13 years, Spota has not missed a single practice. Some wrestlers are excited to get back into the room with their favorite practice partner. Braedan Moore, freshman, “Wyatt is my favorite partner because he has the work ethic and motivation of someone who wants to become better at what he does.” Many people look forward to getting back with the partner of their choice. These partners are usually around the same weight and choose who they would like to wrestle with. Wrestlers have been making sure that they get plenty of mat-time during the off-season. Chaz Brogden, Sophomore, said,“I wrestle at Guerilla Wrestling Academy and Participate at practices at Minions during the offseason.” Brogden said. wrestlers make sure that they continue learning in the offseason so that they are able to come back much better than they were last year.
A huge accomplishment in wrestling is the privilege of wrestling at the GHSA state competition. Wyatt Hunton, Sophomore, said, “I have competed at state once, and I took fifth place. The bracket was tough, but I had practiced enough to succeed.” It is a true privilege to participate at state for wrestling, but it is also extremely difficult to advance through the brackets. Wrestlers have to have something important that motivates them to do their best even under the worst circumstances. Ayden Garrett, sophomore, “My teammates are supporting me and not letting the team down,” Garrett said. The sense of letting someone down can be a wonderful motivation factor and can push any wrestler to their absolute limit. We also have a new addition to the coaching staff and that is Coach Cannon. Cannon, assistant coach to the softball team, “I like sports, and I wanted to coach.” The wrestling season is coming around the corner and is only a month away from starting, and around 70 estimated wrestlers are waiting in anticipation for their favorite sports season to come back around.
