With a new season, new coach, and new players the Armuchee Middle School football team worked very hard this season. Their season ended with two wins and four losses. Despite the losses, players enjoyed the season.
Riley Millican, an eighth grader said, “We’ve got a new head coach and new coaches, and in general we are doing a little better winning-wise than in the past years.” Many of the players have stated they are feeling more motivated and are excited to see what the rest of the season holds. Also, Millican said, “We could have made some better throws and also our defensive line needs to block more.” Coach Duff, Armuchee Middle School’s head football coach said, “We need to improve in all aspects of the game including blocking. The players have taken great strides this year in learning a new system on both sides of the ball, and have shown improvement. We still have a long way to go in becoming the team I know these players can be.”
With all these wins the team is still working on improvements. Altis Datis, a seventh grader, said, blocking is where he should improve. Datlis said, “Whenever we are on offense we rush too fast and the quarterback doesn’t ever have time to move before he gets sacked.” The team and the coaches know in order to be their very best they are going to have to put in the work, improve on blocking, and just be better overall around the field.
Players enjoy the sport for various reasons. Mickey Fernandez, an eighth grader, said, “I play to release stress, and it’s fun because you get to hit people.” The coaches are working hard this season to see the players improve and grow. Coach Duff said, “I love it. The kids are great; very coachable kids. They listen, they understand, and they learn really quickly.” Coach Duff has just moved here from Rockmart this year. He thinks that Armuchee’s Middle School football team worked extremely hard. Compared to last season the team has improved drastically.
