AHS Senior Projects: Christopher Dean and Emma Grace Rogers

Ethan Peace, Staff Writer

Christopher Dean recently helped  with Parents with Autistic Children or PAC. Dean said, “I have had good ideas for an honors senior project, like doing a lesson about disabilities, working with Restoration Rome, or possibly working with veterans in Floyd County.” Dean said, “My project was helping PAC with their 1st Trunk-Or-Treat for Autistic Children.” Dean has already finished the Trunk-Or-Treat. He said “I have had help with collecting candy for the Trunk-or-Treat for Autistic kids from our NHS chapter, as well as a few volunteers from NHS to help with the games.”  Dean’s research paper will be about the Disability Rights Movement.

Emma Grace Rogers wanted to help an underprivileged school she visited while in Costa Rica. Rogers saw the children needed supplies, so she made supply pouches for them. Rogers came up with the idea for her project at the end of her Junior year. Rogers originally wanted to hand sew the school supply pouches herself.  Some included 24 pencils, 12 colored pencils, three cap erasers, and three pink erasers. NHS, Key Club, and Spanish Honors Society helped gather supplies for Rogers project. “We should help all people who are unprivileged,” said Rogers.
