Executive Interns Take on the Work World

Brianne Carver, Staff Writer

As an executive intern in high school, students work in a real office or work site, helping the business in which they are interested. In return, they gain experience of what work in the field will be like after college. Levi Johnson, Senior, works at a physical therapy office at Floyd outpatient. His typical day is washing beds and transporting patients. His favorite part of working as an executive intern is working with the elderly. Johnson recommends being an intern to other students when the time comes. He said, “It is a good experience to learn the basics of the field. This is exactly what I want to do for a career.”

Erin Carney, Senior, works for Norten’s Women Clinic, an OBGYN office. Her typical day starts at 8:00 a.m. and is very hectic because there are patients waiting to be seen. She loves that while being an intern, she gets the experience to see if she actually is up to the task for the medical field. She said the internship helps with her people skills. Carney said, “Being an intern in high school puts you in a real world situation and prepares you for what you will face.” Carney is dedicated to attending Reinhardt University, and is perusing   nursing for her bachelor’s degree. After she gets her bachelor’s degree, she will go 3 years to specialize to become a nurse anesthetist.

Janna Early, Senior, interns at Homestar Financial for Sonya Blankenship and Lisa Hill. She loves getting to know finance and thinks interning is a good experience for other students to do. The basis of her day varies; some days she does marketing, some days she makes copies, and some days she files loans. Early wants to go to Georgia Southern or Berry College and major in finance and accounting.
