On November 7, the Armuchee cross country teams travelled to Carrollton High School to compete in the GHSA Class A State Championship. They had worked very hard throughout their season and had gotten first place in the regional competition, which both teams have won several years in a row now. Although no Armuchee cross country team has ever won the state championship, that changed this year. The Lady Indians claimed first place out of 22 teams, and earned their much deserved state rings. Shelby Green, a runner for the Armuchee girls, won the entire race with first place, and Marissa Kimple, another runner for the Armuchee girls, not far behind with her ending the race in second place.

On the team’s state win, Coach Pierce said, “I tried to stay calm but I was very excited, I’ve waited a long time for us to get a state championship title and this group gave it to us with a lot of hard work. They all worked really hard and gave it their all, no one had a bad race at state.” The boys cross country team did a great job as well, as they claimed the runner up title against 24 other schools. They’ve earned this title for several years in a row now. The Armuchee cross country teams did our schools proud this season, and will continue to do so for many years to come with the level of skill the runners possess.
